“Kyrie uses the whole court and constantly changes direction,” says Ben. The goal of this design was to maintain his balance. The team experimented by separating the sole, allowing the shoe to support the foot at every angle. “Now Kyrie can plant his foot at a 45-degree angle while changing direction and preparing for his next incredible move.”
Maintain Speed Through Turns
For Kyrie, quick movements are essential for power and scoring. Ben and the team designed an outsole that mimics how a tire supports a turning car. “We want him to stay fast when cutting,” Ben explains. The new flex allows the shoe to bend efficiently, while the rounded shape of the outsole ensures that momentum isn’t lost during sharp turns. Instead, the energy generated is transferred into the next move, maximizing his power.
